I'm a dreamer. I love to built sandcastles. Put my boots on and go. I'm a drama teacher, a primairy school teacher, a coach, a director and an actress.  I moved to Melbourne, Australia. Following the love of my life, the start of a new journey.

I love theatre, I love art and I believe no one can have a complete life without experiencing those things. The last few years I tried to connect everthing I love and do in life. Making community based, art and creative projects. Teaching how to teach and finding new paths to teach almost every day. Feeling bubbly and alive!

My name is Madelief Debeij. I’m an educator and teacher from the Netherlands. With a background as a primary school teacher and drama teacher I’ve taught on the Bachelor Education, for primary school teachers in Leiden, the Netherlands. My role in the team was finding creative solutions for complex situations and creating some more air and space for the ones involved, thereby reaching consensus quicker. I’ve used my background in different forms of education; being a primary school teacher and a drama teacher (which both requires a different sort of teacher, a different learning environment, a different curriculum and a different learning method).

I’m getting inspired by educators as Gert Biesta (educator in the Netherlands, Norway and England) who states that the learning experience should be unique, following the student’s own imagination. This entails that there is no right or wrong in outcome, since the focus is on the learning process of the individual. And I got inspired by John Hattie (New Zealand, Australia) who states that a student should be looked at trough his or her own eyes. Helping the students to become their own master.

I use my inspiration in my daily work, currently this is as a private teacher and before in my work as a teacher and coach of starting teachers. My approach is playful working on creating boundaries but most of all creating the space everyone can work in. Always trying to work with “pedagogical tact”: trying to do the right thing, on the right moment, getting support from my students.
